This is an outstanding banjo for beginners and advanced players. I bought a Special Edition banjo (hence the higher price). That makes it a very honest banjo, and it has my respect. I would find it hard pressed to cut through others if played in a group or jam. It uses guitar-style tuners. Good solid construction... it's made in the USA...excelent, Year Purchased: I started playing (clawhammer style) a month ago on a $100 dollar import banjo and the difference in sound quality and resonance is unbeliveable. Plain jane is more like it. This banjo has a very peculiar look: blonde and beautiful. I've always had good experiences with Deering's representatives when calling for the history behind my banjos (told me a load about my Maple Blossom). I'm not at all a fan of the gigantic peg head!! Being an open-back it’s easily muted with a small towel stuck between the cordinator rod and the head, making it very silent while keeping good tone and pitch.
