Previously on view internationally at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (2015–2016); Yuz Museum, Shanghai (2015); Museum of Modern Art, New York (2013) and Barbican Centre, London (2012), Rain Room is the first of a series of permanent installations Sharjah Art Foundation has planned for sites across the Emirate. The Rain Room uses 1,200 litres of self-cleaning recycled water that provides an immersive experience of continuous rainfall. This is Rain Room in Sharjah. The Rain Room is a unique modern art installation, offering an inspirational and magical experience for visitors. Created by the London and Berlin-based Random International, the Rain Room is now permanently located in Sharjah. Random International’s immersive installation Rain Room (2012) invites you to walk through a downpour of continuous rain without getting wet. The Sharjah Art Foundation and the UAE-based Space Continuum Design Studio in collaboration with Shape Architecture Practice + Research, Sharjah, combined to create this spectacle. It rains everywhere except where you stand. Rain Room creates falling rain, immersing the visitor in a sensory experience of sound and smell, but stopping the downpour as the visitor navigates through the space, leaving them dry.
